20 Best Video Games Of 2017
10. Injustice 2
The only good thing DC put their name to all year (outside of some stellar comics, anyway) Injustice 2 is the best fighter - possibly even the best game - NetherRealm have ever made.
And that really is saying something.
The stellar campaign delves into notions of corruption, power, rule-making and responsibility, both from Batman and Superman's POV. It actually manages to do the Batman V Superman conflict the movie never could, factoring in various additional heroes and villains to create the best fighting game story since 2011's Mortal Kombat reboot.
And then there's the fighting itself, which remains meaty, enjoyable and lightning-fast. Mastering a character takes players from busting out the occasional special and marvelling at the cutaway animations that devastate lifebars, to both whizzing around the screen like Dragon Ball Z fighters, grabbing parts of the scenery to use as weapons and barrelling through walls to continue the fight elsewhere.
There's so much going on in Injustice 2 - from story to multiplayer, loot grind to endlessly generated Multiverse content that factors in costumes from the movies and comics - it's great value for money, not to mention the stellar feeling of fist meeting face.
