20 Best Video Games Of 2017
7. Cuphead
If there was an award for the most infuriating and utterly unforgiving game of the year, it's Cuphead.
Studio MDHR's phenomenally unique-looking indie gem is an absolute b*stard when it comes to challenge - though in a way that's resonated with millions of gamers as a throwback to 80s and early 90s game design.
Thankfully, though progression is tied to defeating a number of visually stunning bosses, things do get easier if you indulge in the optional run n' gun missions, as these unlock additional abilities and health points to get by.
Still, the thrill of turning an agonising series of pattern memorisation into one glorious bullet-dodging, final blow-dealing set of inputs is a sky-punching sense of euphoria like nothing else.
Cuphead is a triumph in game design, and besting it feels just as good as watching everything unfold.
