20 Best Video Games Of 2019 (So Far)
16. Days Gone
Something that if it was far tighter on runtime or actually fleshed out some incredibly cool group zombie mechanics, would likely be in the top 5, Days Gone falls right down the list thanks to being all over the place.
Let's focus on the positives for now though, because there is a LOT to love about an open-world zombie survival game that prioritises the little things.
Things like slinking through dilapidated townships in search of ammunition and fuel as hordes of zombies amble all around you can be incredibly intense, and making your one lifeline a customisable bike is almost a stroke of genius. You'll take to the latter over the course of 50-ish hours, planning getaway strategies, burning through infected zones and ferrying characters from A to B, the one constant being your hunt for answers about your former wife, plus any sense of purpose.
If there's one thing Days Gone's unbelievable sense of padding inadvertently nails, it's isolation.
Getting through everything on offer is a mammoth task, and as the first part of a potential trilogy/series, here's to sequels only bringing everything together more cohesively.
