17. Apex Legends
Perhaps something of a "fad game" given it dropped and proceeded to kick Fortnite off its pedestal as the world's most talked about Battle Royale, Apex has settled into a nice rhythm, attracting players who want something more to the genre than just the genre itself.
Which is to say: Respawn Entertainment are arguably the best FPS studio working today, and Apex Legends came with a slew of features that helped solo or group players find their footing in seconds.
Things like the ping system (a dedicated button to mark out ammunition, other players or points of interest) means you can communicate constantly but non-verbally, letting you focus on environmental audio cues and ability deployment, rather than the distractions of random players. Respawn have also long-perfected FPS gunplay, being comprised of developers from various Call of Duties, and giving us the immaculate Titanfall 2.
Right now they're known for stating they won't submit to crunch culture for the sake of a more consistent rollout of content, but what is here, is damn-near flawless.
