20 Best Video Games Of 2019 (So Far)
15. Metro Exodus
Speaking of survival games and gameplay loops, Metro Exodus takes its signature action out the Russian underground, and out across the wilderness, peppering a barren, apocalyptic landscape with crafting components and enemy encampments.
Thankfully it's not as Ubisoft-lite as that sounds, and in between encounters you'll be fixing up a number of steampunk-esque weapons, trying to upgrade your own suit, alongside taking in the history of the world wherever possible.
Though main-man Artyom doesn't speak, Exodus has a lively feel thanks to a cast of characters exploring the wider reaches of the surface for the first time. This allows 4A Games to truly surprise you with factions who've made a living inside abandoned ships, forestation or nuclear bunkers, the overall tonality being one of harsh, meaningful survival, moving you forward one pivotal NPC interaction at a time.
