20 Biggest Games Of 2014: What Do We Already Know?
10. Evolve (Q3 2014)
Evolve certainly has one of the most innovative concepts for an online shooter in recent years: it is a 5-player co-op game, in which four players team up to take down a fifth player who controls a giant monster. The more enemies the monster kills, the more it evolves and becomes stronger, though during these evolution stages, the monster is also vulnerable to attacks. Turtle Rock Studios are no stranger to brilliant co-op shooters, though, what with their work on the Left 4 Dead series, raising expectations to exceedingly high levels for this ambitious and innovative effort. Those who have played the game to date, such as Game Informer, have praised it for its tension and emphasis on teamwork, while also stating that it functions well even if your entire team has been obliterated. With a great selection of maps, hopefully Turtle Rock can give us another brilliant team-based shooter. Will It Deliver? Whether the idea will catch on with the general public remains to be seen, but what we've heard so far sounds fantastic. Hopefully it won't be another Brink: an ambitious effort that doesn't hit its full potential.
