20 Biggest Video Game Bombs Of 2025
11. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been delayed so many times, it genuinely felt like the cursed project would never come out. But 17 years after the last instalment, the long-awaited sequel is finally here.
And boy, it's hard to put into words how disheartening the game is. Exploration has been a fundamental component in the franchise since its inception, which is why it's uncharacteristic to see Beyond's layout lack depth and structure. Instead of getting a tight interconnected world, many environments, especially the central hub, are barren, diluting the desire to look around.
Not only that, the gripping isolation that Metroid is renowned for is tainted by annoying side-characters. These NPCs frequently provide commentary or direction, disrupting the atmosphere. Although it's reassuring to see a sequel mix it up, the additional psychic abilities and vehicle-based segments feel jarring, especially since they're not implemented well.
Even though Beyond hasn't bombed as monumentally as other entries on this list, seeing a decline of quality this extreme is baffling. After years of hype and Prime's near-mythic reputation, it didn't seem feasible for the next entry to match expectations. However, nobody anticipated Beyond to be the worst Prime entry and arguably the weakest mainline game in the Metroid series.
