20 Biggest Video Game Bombs Of 2025
19. Mecha Break
Before explaining what went wrong with Mecha Break, it’s worth noting what the project had going for it.
Developed by Amazing Seasun Games, the futuristic shooter attracted attention early, since it contained a huge variety of mechs. It's deeply satisfying to perform aerial manoeuvres and dodge missiles while piloting a giant robot, due to the dynamic combat and accessible controls. To top it off, it's free.
When its beta opened in February, Mecha Break reached over 300,000 players on Steam, which was higher than Marvel Rivals. On paper, it was shaping up to be a monumental success.
But in hindsight, Mecha Break was too good to be true. What had been free or easily accessible in the beta was suddenly locked behind grind-heavy missions and paywalls. Despite being promoted as a free shooter, players needed to spend up to $50 on packages that contained basic skins, mechs, and cosmetics. Coupled with an abundance of performance issues, Mecha Break ended up losing 60% of its player base within its first week.
The beta indicated Mecha Break could've grown into something truly epic, which is why it was a pity to see the property fade into the ether.
