Thanks to Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, platformers exploded in popularity during the 1990s. Wanting a piece of the action, Accolade got to work on their own 2D side-scroller, Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind.

Even though the pun-filled IP has never been particularly popular, Limited Games released a compilation this year called Bubsy The Purrfect Collection. It includes every port of the first four titles, including the Jaguar-exclusive, Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales.

As can be expected from an Atari-published compilation, The Purrfect Collection includes interviews with the developers, tons of artwork, a music player, behind-the-scenes material, commercials, and even details involving the cancelled Bubsy cartoon.

It's difficult to fault the presentation, but that doesn't change the fact these games aren't exactly top-tier. I mean, why is Bubsy 3D included, when it's regarded as one of the worst platformers of all time?

Even though Bubsy has its defenders, The Purrfect Collection is a lost cause, since it has an all-time peak CPC on Steam of 77. Based on those numbers, it's possible this kitty will be put to sleep for good.
