In 2013, we got just that: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, a game about swashbuckling pirates, naval battles and adventures on the high sea.
After years of the same, repetitive formula, we finally got the game we never even knew we wanted. Assassin's Creed was fun again, and while the overall narrative continued to meander about aimlessly, the central mechanic offered a degree of fun unprecedented for the series.
