20 Disappointing Video Games That Didn't Fulfil Their Potential

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore the Knight of the Old Republic duology. They’re some of my favourite games ever released. The reason this is so low on the list isn’t because of the bugs, which the game does have, but because of a lie that was told to us by Aspyr, the developers of the remaster for the Nintendo Switch.

It’s well known that Knights of the Old Republic 2 faced a rushed development cycle, and it's a miracle it released in a playable state at all. Releasing only one year after the first game, Obsidian took over the development duties from BioWare and created what some would argue is a game that surpasses the first entry. They’d be wrong, but we’re all allowed to have our own opinions.

One of the biggest reasons is that the game was released with missing content. It wasn’t finished. A huge chunk of the ending content wasn’t finished in time, which is why the original ending of the game feels weird. You get most of your conclusion through dialogue via Kreia.

There is a popular mod available on PC where fans have come together and restored the ending content, which is fantastic. When bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch, Aspyr promised to include the restored content. They didn’t. They still haven’t, thus leaving Knights of the Old Republic 2 as a shell of what it could be.

Hey, I’m Matt. I work full-time at WhatCulture's neighbours, MyVoucherCodes. I first joined MyVoucherCodes as a Deals Expert, scouring the internet, leaving no stone unturned in finding the best discount codes, sales and offers for our customers. Moving into my first home during the worst possible time (during lockdown), I understand the necessity of saving money when the purse strings are tight. Outside of saving money, I’m into video games, movies, books and music. I host and edit a video game podcast called The Retry Hard Podcast, where my friend and I go through news, reviews and video games in general. I love movies and watching how they’re made, and I’ve worked as a set decorator for a few months on His Dark Materials season 3, which gave me a massive insight into how it all comes together. I also put out music as a solo artist named Matt Kiano, where I won the award for Best Male Artist of 2025 for Radio Wigwam and have been nomiated for Best Live Act at the 2026 Radio Wigwam Awards.
