The Day Before serves as a cautionary tale of why you shouldn't always believe everything you see in a video game trailer. When this zombie survival game was first unveiled in 2021, it looked incredibly impressive. Set in a post-apocalyptic version of America, the trailer detailed a stunning open world packed with abandoned buildings, infected enemies, and other players, in something that looked like a cross between The Division and The Last of Us.

Developer Fntastic continued to build hype following the reveal, showing off increasingly impressive gameplay footage of the MMO, including scenes of players looting shops and buildings, customizing weapons, and fighting off infected and other players. By the time it arrived into early access in 2023, The Day Before was one of Steam's most wishlisted games, with plenty of gamers excited to finally play it.

Once they did, however, things changed pretty quickly. What they got was an incredibly bare-bones shooter with a plethora of bugs, server issues and technical problems, as Steam was quickly flooded with negative player reviews. The final product scarcely resembled initial trailers or gameplay footage whatsoever. Things went from bad to worse when Fntastic pulled the plug on the whole thing a couple days later, claiming it had failed financially and shutting the game down for good, refunding players in the process.
