20 Dumb Choices That Will DESTROY Your Game Save

Undertale is a unique RPG that gives you the option to spare your enemies instead of just killing them. At this point, the plot twist related to this mechanic, that killing creatures turns you into a genocidal maniac, is known to pretty much everyone.

However, the same cannot be said about how the game teaches you that every monster is able to be spared and this is why some players can make an early mistake that will haunt them for the rest of their playthrough.

The first boss of the game is Toriel, the fan-favorite goat mom, who challenges you to a fight to the death to prevent you from leaving her home.

Up until this encounter, sparing creatures works instantly, but when you try to click the spare button with Toriel, it doesn’t seem to do anything, so less patient players will eventually cave and end her life, even though Toriel is spareable—it just takes a lot of tries to convince her to stop fighting.

If you can’t figure this out, Toriel’s death will weigh on your consciousness for the rest of the campaign.

You will be given a chance to correct this mistake for a pacifist ending eventually, but the other characters will comment on it, and you will be branded a murderer.
