20 Glitches That EASILY Unlock Difficult Trophies

12. Complete Most Chapter Trophies - Celeste

Celeste C Side Chapter 7
Matt Makes Games

Developed by Maddy Thorson, Celeste has players take control of an anxiety-riddled woman called Madeline, who hopes to scale a mountain. Reaching the summit is no easy task since the entire terrain is filled with spikes that'll kill Madeline upon contact.

Or maybe not. Upon each frame, Madeline’s position is updated first, then collisions with tiles, spikes, and hazards. If Madeline's movement is manipulated so she moves past a spike between these checks, the collision can be skipped, giving her temporary immunity.

There's no universal method to pull off a spike clip, since Madeline must be moved a certain way, depending if the spikes are below, beside, or above her. But as a basic rule of thumb, it's easier to perform by using precise mid-air movement. In some cases, moving diagonally or clipping into corners allows Madeline's hit-box to overlap spikes for a single frame without the game recognising a collision.

Though the glitch doesn't work on every spike layout, it's definitely worth mastering, since it'll let players pick up the majority of the chapter completion Trophies with ease.
