20 Greatest Multiplayer Games Ever

8. Mashed: Drive To Survive

Developer: Supersonic Software Platform: Playstation 2, Xbox, PC Release: 2004 There are two types of people in this world. Those who are aware that Mashed is the greatest multiplayer battle racer ever made, and those who aren't. For those not in the know, Mashed pits up to four players against each other along a series of winding tracks, allowing them to pick up an array of weapons and knock each other into pits and each other. The twist is that the game isn't about who can complete a circuit the quickest, but who can survive the longest. Key to the game's success is that every race takes place on one screen, with no splits. If you lag too far behind the others, you will fall off the screen and die. Trying to shunt and shove your opponents off the screen is hugely entertaining, and 'one quick game' can easily lead to marathons that extend well into the early hours.
