20 Greatest Multiplayer Games Ever

7. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Developer: Valve Platform: PC, Mac OS X, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 Release: 2012 The original Counter-Strike was a modification for Half-Life, and managed to took the PC gaming community by storm. Highly tactical gameplay combined with the ability to buy new weapons depending on how well you've been playing made for a winning combination, and Counter-Strike was quickly adapted into a standalone title by Valve. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the latest iteration in the franchise, and the first to be playable on both PC and console. Critical and popular response was initially somewhat muted, with many players feeling that not enough had changed, and the shooting just didn't feel very Counter-Strikey. In true Valve fashion, a series of updates has since improved Global Offensive a tremendous amount. Accurate ELO matchmaking, unlockable cosmetics and a focus on community input made Global Offensive an eventual fan favourite.
