Developer: Firaxis Games Released: 2010 On launch, Civilization V felt worryingly like a step backwards for the franchise. The gameplay system was too punishing on players that chose to expand, while features such as religion and civics were removed entirely. Fortunately, the two main expansion packs brought in the much-requested features, giving Civilization V the groundwork to be the best in the series so far. The irritating unit stacking issues had been solved, the whole UI was smoother than ever, and the religion mechanics were better than ever. Sadly, the AI remains absolute rubbish, totally preventing Civilization V from reaching its full potential.
