20 Infuriating Video Game Bosses Nobody Beat First Time

6. Fontaine (Bioshock)

Although Bioshock's final showdown with Fontaine went on to become one of the most divisive boss battles in all of video game history, it€™s undeniable that the encounter seriously tested all the abilities and skills you had learned throughout the title up until that point. With Fontaine, the initial trouble often stemmed from entering his combat area wholly unprepared, as with not enough ammo, upgrades or the plasmid-replenishing Eve to keep you sustained throughout the multi-tiered fight, it was easy to run out of essential resources during the drawn out encounter. It didn€™t help that the boss could pulverise you in an instant if you weren€™t paying attention, either. With a maddening ability to rush you wherever you were in the room, fending off Fontaine required lightning-quick reflexes and a superhuman ability to dodge (easier said than done when you have no idea where your opponent is because of the limiting first person view). Throw in the constant stream of drones hounding you to make matters worse, and it's easy to see why getting through to see the final credits of this original Bioshock required Big Daddy levels of perseverance.
