Before the days of online gaming players who wanted to play with their friends had to gather around a console and duke it out. They were happier times - with far fewer pre-pubescent teens shouting down the microphone about things they were going to do to your mother - and no game best demonstrates the many advantages of playing with your friends around than Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament.

Coming with a pair of joypad slots built into the cartridge - allowing for four-player gameplay - the game was everything that was right with multiplayer gaming. Easy to pick up but hard to master, you will soon find yourself slyly bumping your friends off the track to zoom past and pick up that all-important point, enduring more than a few curse words along the way.

It is a purely magical gaming experience, though one that has probably been the cause of a few broken joypads - and friendships - over the years.
