When the trailer for the Saints Row reboot dropped at the Game Awards, we had one thought: "Thank God, they actually get it!"
Despite the nine-year gap between 2022's reboot and the last Saints game, developers Deep Silver Volition haven't forgotten what makes the Saints tick - wilfully absurd missions, ludicrous levels of character customization and the fact that the Saints are friends first, thugs second.
The original series was at its best when it focused on the bond between the Saints. Over the course of four games these foul-mouthed, anti-social gang members transformed into a group of ride or die besties whose friendship and camraderie made them a joy to spend time with. If the reboot manages to capture a fraction of that bonhomie, this could be one of the most genuinely uplifting games of 2022.
