15. Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Breath of the Wild 2
The Pokemon Company

Platform: Nintendo Switch

Let's be honest: New Pokémon Snap aside, Pokémon hasn't had the greatest time on Switch.

Sword and Shield were among the weakest entries in the franchise, and the recently released Diamond & Pearl remakes were uninspired, middle-of-the-road retreads of the DS' worst Pokémon games.

It would be a stretch to say Pokémon is struggling - those remakes have already sold over 6 million copies between them - but nearly five years into the Switch's lifestyle it's disheartening that we've yet to see a good Pokémon game, never mind a great one.

Fortunately Pokémon Legends: Arceus looks like it'll break the Switch's Pokécurse with the series' most daring game to date.

Taking a leaf from the Monster Hunter series, Arceus will see players taking missions from their home base (the cheerfully named Jubilife Village) and exploring the largest map in the series to date. Granted, Arceus' segmented areas many not offer the vast, Breath of the Wild-esque map the initial trailer hinted at, but it's still the most exciting-looking Pokémon game in years.

If you're a lapsed Pokéfan like this writer, Arceus looks set to bring you back into the fold when it comes out on January 28th.
