17. Schedule I

One of last year's viral indie hits was Schedule I, an open world crime simulator where players take control of a drug dealer as they grow and manufacture various illicit substances to build their criminal empire.

And while the premise was provocative enough to raise some eyebrows and cause the game to be unavailable in Australia for over two months, that actually isn't the chief reason that Schedule I courted so much controversy.

Rather Movie Games SA, the publisher of 2020's Drug Dealer Simulator, began investigating a potential case of copyright infringement against Schedule I due to its similar gameplay style and interface.

This prompted incensed fans to review-bomb both Drug Dealer Simulator games, even though Movie Games SA hadn't initiated any formal legal action against Schedule I's small team and still hasn't as of early 2026.

Ultimately this furore only boosted Schedule I's profile, with the game currently sitting at almost 175,000 reviews skewing Overwhelmingly Positive while grossing an estimated $125 million in revenue.
