3. Candy Crush Maker Files A Trademark Request On The Word "Candy"
On paper, this seems like a villain's plot in a Disney show cartoon - an evil corporation trying to trademark and control the word 'candy' for their monetary benefit. Although I'm not about to delve into copyright/trademark law, at its core, the request to put a trademark on the word "candy" was seen as comical from gamers and members of the public alike.
As we all know, Candy Crush is THE mobile game - or was before Clash Royale came along.
Almost everyone has had it on their phone, and you can't log into Facebook without getting a notification from friends who are playing it. It's become a titan, and King are still milking it for every penny.
This brings us to the trademark claim for the word "candy." Thankfully King came to their senses and abandoned it in 2014, after receiving the rights to Candy Crush. King has also gone after games that shared words of their games like CandySwipe and The Banner Saga, the latter they thought pertinent because the word 'saga' was used.
