20 Most Intense Video Game Moments Ever

5. Liftoff - To The Moon

Few games are as emotionally affecting and so exquisitely well written as To The Moon.

Penned by Ken Gao, it's an Inception-esque tale where two scientists are tasked with planting memories in a dying man's mind, to help ease him during passing by making him think he achieved the impossible in life.

To do this means delving into his past, and you uncover a tale where the old man, Johnny, had something of a pained relationship with his wife River, settling on the idea of going to the moon as his final wish, because of an event when they were young.

To The Moon ends in the most touching way, as inside Johnny's new simulated memories where he and River are both on the same shuttle to the moon, River extends her hand and he takes it, passing away in a state of complete happiness.

Simply stunning.
