The postapocalyptic world of The Last Of Us is a grim place to exist in. Not only are there hordes of zombies and infectious spores to deal with, but the human survivors are even more dangerous. Out of everything players endure throughout these games, however, nothing can prepare them for The Rat King from The Last Of Us: Part II

As its name suggests, this boss is a tangled mass of various infected fused together by the Cordyceps fungus. Although players can hear its guttural roar while exploring the hospital as Ellie, they'll have to wait until Abby's section to face it.

After jump scaring players when it suddenly appears from the darkness, it pursues Abby in a white-knuckled chase through the hospital's basement before eventually cornering her.

Players then get the chance to see this boss's design in all its sickening glory as they're forced to fight it in the close confines of a tiny arena. The encounter gets even more horrifying when some of the infected begin to peel themselves off, making the fight simultaneously tougher and more mentally scarring.

Even when the Rat King is defeated, one stalker survives to get the drop on Abby soon after.
