20 PS2 Games That Need A Modern Remake
13. Oni (2001)
The only game developed by Bungie West, Oni takes place within a near-future dystopia where pollution has rendered Earth mostly uninhabitable. Players take control of Konoko, a highly trained agent working for an elite government police force tasked with taking down a powerful criminal organisation.
However, when she discovers that her employers have been lying to her about her past, she sets out on a quest of self-discovery to uncover the truth about her identity. Branded a traitor, she finds herself fighting against the government and criminal underworld.
Heavily inspired by anime classics like Ghost In The Shell and Akira, everything about this 2001 title is dripping in cyberpunk goodness. Nothing about this game, though, was as strong as its combat.
Seamlessly blending third-person shooting with slick martial arts action, players could leap into battles while firing then transition into satisfying melee combos when they ran out of bullets. The combat system was as stylish as it was in-depth, making each encounter a delight to play.
Following the cancellation of a sequel in 2002, this franchise has since been stuck in limbo. With it still being fondly remembered by fans, a remake could be the spark Oni needs to make a comeback.
