20 PS2 Games That Still Hold Up

13. Tekken 5

Namco

With the release of the PS2, Tekken fans were excited to see how the new console would take Namco's fighting saga to the next level. Although Tekken 4 and Tekken Tag Tournament were terrific, they didn't have the same wow factor as the early games.

Tekken 5, on the other hand, knocked it out of the park. The roster was robust, bringing back fan-favourites and introducing memorable newcomers, such as Asuka, Bob, Raven, and Feng Wei, who quickly became staples.

Its combat system returned to the fluid pace of earlier entries while polishing the movement and character responsiveness to near perfection. Many annoying mechanics like wall juggling were fine-tuned so they were more difficult to abuse this time around.

On top of everything else, the refined customisation system let the players modify any of the combatants to their liking. With its improved graphics engine and lore-rich Story mode, Tekken 5 delivered a complete package that captivated casual players and loyalists.

And to keep the old-schoolers happy, it included a port of the first three Tekken games. As such, Tekken 5 felt like a celebration of the series’ history as much as a continuation of it.
