There's certainly a lot of video games to be excited about in 2016: long-awaited sequels finally arrive, impressive new IPs we've been hearing about for years will (apparently) land, and there's even the likelihood of Nintendo launching their new NX console at the end of the year. That said, as we all know too well, there are always disappointments and always reasons for a hyped-up game to fall short of the hype. Any one of these twenty games has the potential to be a huge hit, and in some cases even a masterpiece, but each could also trip over the countless hurdles placed in its way and end up a colossal disappointment. From internal developmental issues through to the weight of its own ambition and the current trends of the market, these games certainly have a ton of potential, but it could so easily be squandered on a mediocre end product.
20. Quantum Break Can't Decide If It's A Game Or A TV Show
Release Date: April 5 The Hype: The latest title from Remedy Entertainment (Max Payne, Alan Wake) is a third-person shooter in which the player can manipulate time to their advantage to defeat enemies. In an unprecedented move, the game also comes bundled with a live-action TV show component, which will show the perspectives of the villains and play in-between the game's missions. Why It Might Suck: For starters, Remedy can be pretty hit-and-miss as far as their past successes and failures go, and then there's the feeling that this could be a style-over-substance title that's got great ideas but, like Infamous: Second Son, is pretty empty as far as mission diversity goes. And finally, there's the prevailing feeling that too much effort may have been put into the glossy live-action videos rather than the gameplay, or that audiences may not take kindly to having to put the controller down for 20 minutes at a time when they just want to get onto the next mission.
