19. Doom Strays Too Far From The Franchise Formula
Release Date: May 13
The Hype: What do you really need to know? It's a glossy, gory reboot of the classic franchise, featuring massive guns, demons from Hell, and a mental multiplayer suite.
Why It Might Suck: As promising as all this sounds, there are a few sticking points that Doom purists may struggle with. For one, the game appears to be full of prolonged death animations which feel a little at odds with the snappy, breakneck pace of the series, then there's the promise that the game's single player campaign clocks in at around 13 hours, which even hardcore fans may agree is a tad excessive for something so simple. And finally, there's the multiplayer, which
going by the latest trailer, looks closer to a cross between Halo and Quake 3 Arena than the typical Doom mayhem we're used to. Perhaps these new flourishes will be good for the series, or maybe they'll just alienate those who made it so successful in the first place.
