20 Reasons The Year's Biggest Video Games Might Suck

19. Mortal Kombat X Does Nothing To Further The Series

Release Date: April 14 The Hype: The series' first outing since 2011's reboot, Mortal Kombat X will reunite fans with the classic characters they know and love for more of the gore-soaked combat, in shiny HD of course. Perhaps the most interesting new addition is Faction Wars, a persistent online mode in which players join a team and win points for that team by fighting online. Guest characters Jason Voorhees and Predator join the mix...if you've shelled out for a season pass. Why It Might Suck: Though many gamers will likely go easy on MKX given how few current-gen beat 'em ups are on the market, it would be really disappointing if this is just another garden variety Mortal Kombat game which doesn't sufficiently change-up the formula. That's exactly why so many players are hesitant to spend full price on beat 'em up games, and if it's just a better-looking version of what's been done before, then there's not much reason to buy it until it's had a steep price drop in a few months.
