10. Mewgenics
Unless you’re a huge fan of The Binding of Isaac and its creator Edmund McMillen, chances are Mewgenics was not on your game release radar at all in 2026. Unlike Binding of Isaac, which is a twinstick shooter, Mewgenics is a cross between turn-based tactics and a cat breeding simulator — yes, you heard that right.
In Mewgenics, players will take a party of four cats out on a run, ideally bringing them back to base levelled up with useful skills. These cats can then be used to breed stronger cats to go out on the next run, and from there the cycle continues.
For such a silly concept, Mewgenics pulls off complex tactics incredibly well, with a host of different cat classes, traits, and items that make every run both unique and thought-provoking. At the same time, it still maintains the purposefully-crass sense of humor McMillen is known for, with lots of poop jokes and over-the-top animations of two cats getting it on.
Though it’s too early to tell how Mewgenics will do during awards season, if the game’s sales are any indication — surpassing a million copies sold in just one week — it will likely do very well.
