17. Nubby's Number Factory
If you’re looking for a new job, consider one at the number factory, where your work is very simple: make increasingly large numbers; if you fail to make a large enough number, the sun explodes. This is the concept of Nubby’s Number Factory, a Peggle-inspired roguelite created by solo developer MogDogBlog.
Much like its Peggle inspirations, the gameplay of Nubby’s Number Factory involves shooting a ball — in this case, a sentient one named Nubby — at numbered pegs, but the scoring itself is much more complicated. It’s very similar to Balatro: players can increase their score through items, ideally making a synergistic combination.
And speaking of Balatro, the poker roguelite creator localthunk even tweeted about Nubby after its release — it seems nobody was immune to the game’s surreal, silly charm.
It’s got an art style that will make you nostalgic for old flash games, and with item names like Poop Butt and the fact that you earn perks by feeding a giant mouth that resides on the wall of the factory cafe, the eccentricity is never ending in Nubby’s Number Factory. That weirdness, alongside incredibly addictive gameplay, is what’s kept players coming back to this surprise hit again and again.
