20 Trailers So Bad They KILLED Video Games

10. Saints Row (2022)

Starting off as a Grand Theft Auto knockoff, Saints Row eventually carved its own identity by focusing on absurd scenarios, like fighting laser-shooting crabs and creating sex tapes for an alien overlord.

Although it's refreshing when a gaming series goes back to the drawing board, Saints Row didn't need to, since Volition's crime caper found its feet when it broke away from the blueprint.

But based on the trailer for 2022's Saints Row, it was obvious this reboot was scaling back the wackiness big-time. Rather than gaining superpowers or battling zombies while riding a dinosaur, the craziest moments in this game involve toasting a waffle and taking part in a LARP campaign.

Now, back-to-basics reboots aren't necessarily a bad thing, but the realistic approach stripped away Saints Row's established tone and identity. Though the trailer showed the game would still have its fair share of snark, none of the jokes landed.

Despite exceeding pre-order sales, this version of Saints Row experienced an 80% drop within the second week. Branded as a failure, it wasn't surprising when Volition was shuttered a year later.
