20 Trailers So Bad They KILLED Video Games

15. Godfall

Being a debut title for the PlayStation 5, Godfall should've been a vehicle that showed off the power of Sony's latest console.

But the reveal of Counterplay Game's looter-shooter was a two-pronged disappointment. When a montage for Godfall leaked months before its release, viewers were left confused, since the so-called showstopper didn't look especially next-gen or polished. Developers later confirmed the circulating leak was internal footage from an old PC build, assuring fans the PS5 version would be top-tier.

Although the official trailer for Godfall was undeniably impressive on a visual scale, it revealed little beyond the flashy combat, which was ripped straight out of Monster Hunter. As a result, Godfall was seen as generic and overly reliant on aesthetics. Interest was virtually non-existent upon release, with Godfall debuting at #21 in its first week in Japan. (Having a launch game fail to break into the top 20 is pretty embarrassing.)

In a way, the trailer perfectly encapsulated Godfall, since the underwhelming clunker was a textbook example of style over substance.

No depth. No innovation. No complexity. No thanks.
