20 Unlucky Moments That TOTALLY Ruin Your Game
2. Goodbye Wyll - Baldur's Gate 3
In Baldur’s Gate 3 pretty much everything is decided through dice rolls. Thankfully, the game provides you with a whole arsenal of tools that let you improve your chances of success, such as class abilities, spells, items, feats, and inspiration rerolls.
However, not all rolls grant you access to these tools. Sometimes Baldur's Gate can make hidden rolls for you that trigger automatically and cannot be rerolled. Even though most of these checks don't impact the story too much, one hidden roll that triggers when you attempt to free Mizora in Act 2 can permanently kill off your companion Wyll (or your player character if you start the game as him).
Wyll’s devilish patron Mizora requires you to free her from a mind flayer pod by pressing the correct button on the device. The problem is that learning which button kills her and which button releases her is decided via automatic hidden checks. If the game fails them, you’re forced to guess.
Guess wrong and you will kill Mizora along with Wyll, who is instantly dragged to the hells right in front of your eyes. Just because the game made unlucky rolls for you.
