Once again, Earth is on the way out and humanity is faced with a ticking clock. The only thing that can save us from extinction is 12 light years away, the planet Tau Ceti, where you are headed on the colony ship, Cassiopeia.
Such is the premise of Directive 8020, but if you’re expecting a neat little world-building survival game, you’ve come to the wrong place. When Cassiopeia crash lands on the planet’s surface, you and your crewmates find yourself face-to-face with alien shapeshifters, and pretty soon no-one can be trusted.
The Thing meets Alien, Directive 8020 is not just Bafta-winning indie outfit Supermassive Games’ (creators of Until Dawn and The Quarry) next big thing, but likely the next major title in horror gaming. It’s got exactly what you’d expect: dark corridors, stealth sequences, grim horrors and tough choices, plus the unusual ability to rewind decisions and change your fate. And it has Lashana Lynch providing her voice and likeness to main character Brianna Young, adding that extra level of filmic authenticity.
The game launches on PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S in the first half of 2026.
