Do you remember where you were when Shenmue 3 was announced? If you’re from Europe and aren’t aren’t a super nerd, chances are you were tucked up in bed, fast asleep, probably dreaming that you’d wake to find out that Shenmue 3 had been revealed at Sony’s E3 conference. It’s the same dream many people had been having for years, give or take a few details, but this time it wasn’t a dream. It happened. Shenmue 3 is coming to PlayStation 4. It’s just not known when exactly, and it’ll probably get delayed from whatever release date is given.

What is known is that you shouldn’t be expecting a massive world to explore. Shenmue isn’t about game worlds so large you have to watch YouTubers drive across it in 30 minutes, it’s about packing in detail and making the explorable area rich and believable.

Updates on Shenmue 3’s development have been slim pickings, but hopefully Sony will once again go full nostalgia at E3 2017 at give everyone a nice look at how the game no one really thought would happen is shaping up.
