Now, there are very, very sensible reasons to be skeptical about Deus Ex: Remastered, because as ripe for a loving remaster as the legendary immersive sim is, this doesn't really seem to be that at all - at least not so far.

When Aspyr revealed the remaster last September, fans raked them over the coals for the game's jarring art style, which many found too clean and clinical compared to the original's grottier, scuzzier aesthetic.

Things got heated enough that even the original game's art director Jerry O’Flaherty dunked on the remaster's look, such that in December Aspyr decided to delay the remaster from its planned February bow to respond to the criticism.

The fact that the publisher refunded pre-orders left many concerned the game was either going to become vaporware or be quietly cancelled outright, but what if they're actually just going to take the time to rebuild their remaster and ensure it's befitting the original's legacy? We can hope.
