20 Video Game Reveals That Shocked the World
14. Divinity
The most headline-grabbing reveal of last year's Game Awards was the surprise announcement of a new entry into the RPG franchise Divinity - the first since Divinity: Original Sin II way back in 2017.
While the Divinity series is what put developer Larian Studios on the map, many assumed that the storming recent success of Baldur's Gate 3 would've led to them immediately jumping on Baldur's Gate 4.
But instead, Larian are back working on an IP that they themselves own, and if that wasn't unexpected enough, the hypnotically grim trailer showcased some truly wild sights indeed.
To cut to the chase, the cinematic trailer depicted a man being ritualistically burned to death as a large group of villagers looked on, and an orgy also appeared to be taking place because why the heck not?
This led to a predictably pearl-clutching discourse about the trailer deigning to shock value, all while Larian themselves retorted that their intent was to "[treat] the audience with a level of intellectual respect." Fair, next.
