20 Video Game Secret Areas You Only Have ONE Chance To Discover
1. Mirage Island - Pokemon Emerald
Anyone who had to catch a legendary in any of the Pokemon games knows that the games don’t always let you repeat things. Although you can attempt to catch another Pokémon of the same species after the first slips away, the same doesn’t apply to legendary Pokémon, who can only be encountered once.
Mirage Island from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire follows the same principle as legendaries, only boosted up by a thousand. This secret location has an astronomically low chance to appear whenever you enter Route 103, making it almost impossible to visit even once.
How low are we talking? Every day, the game generates a random number between 0 and 65535. Mirage Island only appears if the number matches the first two bytes of your Pokemon’s personality value, meaning that even if you travel with a full party, you only have a 1 in 10923 chance of Mirage Island spawning.
The island itself isn’t anything special, containing only a single item and some tall grass with Wynauts, but because of the impossible odds, lots of Pokémon fans try to access it just to be able to say they found the location that most players won’t even know exists even after several playthroughs and hundreds of hours in the game.
