20 Video Game Sequels NOBODY Defends
9. Metal Gear Survive (2018)
A multi-million dollar corporation takes a beloved IP and pumps out a crappy game, assuming name-brand recognition will take them all the way to the bank. It really is a tale as old as time, and one that usually doesn't pay off. Case in point - Metal Gear Survive.
This was the first MGS game developed without the architect of the series, Hideo Kojima, after his infamous split with Konami. So, no one can say they were surprised when this game was such a dumpster fire.
Survive took the famous story-led stealth franchise and turned it into a forgettable base-building zombie survival title, clearly hoping to capitalise on the trending genre at that time. It was boring, poorly made, and featured a nonsensical story. On top of this, it was also plagued by predatory microtransactions that showed how little Konami actually cared about making the game over the money they'd rake in for it. That made it doubly awkward when the game sold terribly. Oopsie.
This game was an absolute insult to long-term fans, and the MGS community have still not forgiven it.
