20 Video Game Sequels NOBODY Defends

8. Silent Hill: Book of Memories (2012)

Choosing the worst Silent Hill game is, sadly, something you won't be starved of options for. The beloved horror franchise has had its fair share of stinkers over the years, including Downpour, Homecoming, and The Short Message, among others. Still, while those games are generally disliked, those who really love the spooky IP can at least find some of the franchise's signature survival horror charm in them. The same, however, cannot be said for Silent Hill: Book of Memories.

2012's Book of Memories was a major outlier in the SH franchise, as this PS Vita title was a lacklustre dungeon-crawler, which is about as far from the Silent Hill formula as you can get. Now, in fairness, a shake-up can sometimes be a blessing, but it worked no wonders for this game, as BoM was cursed with mediocrity. The levels were painstakingly repetitive, the horror was minimal, and the combat was threadbare. Most people can forgive bad combat in an SH game, but not when combat is basically the whole thing.

For the record, Silent Hill: Ascension absolutely would have been on this list if it were technically a video game. It's more of an interactive TV show, really, but consider this a dishonourable mention.
