20 Video Games That LIED (And Got Away With It)

3. Prey (2017)

Prey 2017
Bethesda

First person immersive sim Prey is a sci-fi title that takes place aboard a giant abandoned space station called Talos I. Playing as Morgan Yu, a character with no memories, you're tasked with exploring the station, which is overrun with alien creatures called Typhon, and trying to work out what the heck is going on.

Throughout the campaign, you're tasked with making several choices regarding saving or killing people etc, as you navigate the station and try to survive the Typhon onslaught. Sounds pretty cut and dry, right? Except, it isn't. Because the game's climax reveals that you were never actually Morgan Yu to begin with. The entire thing is a giant simulation designed to see if a Typhon is capable of displaying human empathy.

Choices you thought you were making as Morgan, were actually designed to see how a Typhon would react in any given situation regarding life or death decisions. The real Morgan Yu was already dead before the game even started, with his memories implanted into the Typhon you are actually playing as throughout the story.
