11. Half The Game - Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver

Breath of the Wild Minish

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is such an airtight title, it's hard to believe the PSOne classic is but a snippet of what the developers were aiming for.

Several areas were either abandoned entirely or left in an incomplete state, like the mountain retreat, the lighthouse, and the subterranean city. Not only can many of these structures and environmental puzzles be found in the game's files, they are accessible in the 2024 remaster. A citadel was also brainstormed, which would've explored humanity's feud with the vampire clans more deeply. On top of that, several mechanics were axed, including advanced teleportation, soul sucking, fire projectiles, and possession.

Because Raziel has five brothers, players found it odd how he only fights four of them. Originally, Raziel would've clashed with his fifth sibling, Turel, before duking it out with Kain, which would've been more elaborate than the anticlimactic showdown we received.

So, what happened? Well, director Amy Hennig realised in the eleventh hour that her team had over-designed the game, saying:

"The epic story we wanted to convey was too ambitious for a single product".

As a result, many ideas were deserted or repurposed for the sequel.
