20 Video Games With Cut Content That Change EVERYTHING

1. Dark Energy - Mass Effect 3

It's fascinating how one cut plot line from Mass Effect 3 would've recontextualised not just the story, but the overarching narrative of the whole trilogy.

During Tali's loyalty mission in Mass Effect 2, Veetor mentions a certain star is dying far faster than should be possible. According to Mass Effect 2 writer, Drew Karpyshyn, this line foreshadows how Dark Energy is prematurely destroying stars, which will inevitably render the galaxy uninhabitable.

Instead of trying to wipe out advanced species, the Reapers were secretly harvesting them to reverse this star massacre. This plot line would reframe the Reapers from genocidal villains to tragic figures who perform atrocities for the greater good. During Mass Effect 3's climax, Shepard would have to sacrifice populations and alter the laws of the universe to prevent the galaxy from collapsing.

Sadly, Drew Karpyshyn didn't stick around for Mass Effect 3, causing the remaining writer, Mac Walter, to go in a direction with the plot.

This decision led to the infamous colour-coded ending, which we can all agree was about 5,000 times worse than what we would've got if Karypyshyn stayed on.
