17. The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge

Nightmare Before Christmas Oogie's Revenge
Capcom

Beloved by goths of all generations, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a cult classic that simply refuses to die, and yet despite the continual outpouring of love, the film has never gotten the true sequel that the fans have asked for.

Although many may not be aware that we did in fact get a sequel, in the form of 2004's The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge. Developed by Capcom, Oogie's Revenge is set one year after the events of the film and sees Jack Skellington attempt to once again thwart Oogie Boogie after he's taken over Halloween Town.

Now you'd be forgiven for expecting the game to be a puzzle-platformer set in the world of the movies, and whilst that's definitely present here, Capcom decided to spice things up and gave us what's ostensibly a Devil May Cry knock-off. This shouldn't be too surprising since Capcom are responsible for DMC's high-octane action gameplay, but transplanting that kind of gameplay into a Nightmare Before Christmas game is a truly baffling choice.

Against all odds, it does work and Jack Skellington proves to be a worthy action-hero, utilising all manner weapons, costumes, contraptions and powers to lay down some smack-down. It's delightfully odd and well worth seeking out!
