2018's Biggest Video Game Protagonists - Ranked From Worst To Best

12. Lara Croft (Shadow Of The Tomb Raider)

Though the third entry into the Tomb Raider reboot franchise didn't fully live up to its promises of a darker, grittier Tomb Raider game, it nevertheless deserves praise for at least attempting to do something different with the Lara Croft character.

A core theme of the sequel is Lara's own potential status as a "villain", following a catastrophe triggered early on in the game and her general tendency to pilfer priceless artefacts from ancient civilisations.

Lara's characterisation yet again comes across a little schizophrenic - especially as she goes full Predator this time and slaughters her enemies using mud and tree-tops as disguises - but her childhood is given some decent fleshing-out, and Eidos Montréal certainly gets points for trying.

It would've been great to see the game fully embrace Lara transitioning into an antagonist role, but let's face it, was there ever any chance of that actually happening?
