One of the greatest villains in the history of gaming was an absolute show-stealer all the way through. Although almost any who have wandered into the remote vicinity of a copy of Final Fantasy VII know of Sephiroth, and have maybe even seen his flame-licked cutscene-debut when he burns down our hero Cloud's home, your first encounter with him in-game outside of rumour and the destruction he leaves in his wake is through a flashback. In a move that many could argue was the inspiration for Hideo Kojima's Snake to Raiden bait n' switch from Metal Gear Solid 2, we actually only interact with Sephiroth by being his partner in a great set of battles where his true power is put on show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCTkDt_GQdI Already established as the game's villain by this point, we're zipped back to when young Cloud was still a shy member of SOLDIER. That first time you enter into battle and see him do literally thousands of points worth of damage - in comparison to your measly double-digits - remains one of the best ways to introduce a character in history of gaming; in a way that could only be done through the medium itself. So, are there any we missed out? Perhaps you don't agree or demand a re-shuffle? Let us know in the comments!
