20. The New Gears Of War
Despite it being one of their most iconic and definable franchises, for some reason Microsoft aren't doing a great job hyping the next Gears of War - although that could be because spin-off Judgment was such a non-starter it completely stopped momentum on the series dead in its tracks. Regardless, original Gears-creator Rod Fergusson is helming the latest instalment, corralling a new team comprised of ex-Epic guys over at Black Tusk - and although the only Gears-related news story that's emerged is a re-release of the original trilogy in HD, it's a fully-fledged new experience that'll really turn heads if handled properly. Think next-gen chainsaw-meets-body part finishing moves, hulking kebab-legged protagonists roaring down the battlefield whilst they belt out various "Bring it on!"-style phrases, all backed by a roster of weapons more heavy metal than a ten-tonne tea kettle. Gears has always been one of the most unabashedly fun franchises out there, revelling in its own ridiculous take on 90s action tropes and pulling it all off with a blood-soaked smirk, making a return to such things in an industry dominated by first-person shooters a digital godsend.
