24 Greatest Video Game Moments Of The 2000s

15. Winning With An Environmental Finisher - Def Jam: Fight For New York

This has to be one of the most underrated fighters of all time, as WWF No Mercy developer AKI Corporation came up with the phenomenal idea of twinning 90's rap personalities and stereotypes with completely over-the-top fighting engine that was almost superheroic in its execution. First game Def Jam: Vendetta was a straight-up wrestler - albeit with some standout finishers - but it was FFNY that took things to the streets, expanded every character's movesets to include a huge variety of styles, upped the brutality-factor and revamped the graphics towards something that genuinely looked like the next generation of consoles had come early. The result was a game that played perfectly; the ebb and flow of combat having just the right level of taking a pasting only to allow for last minute comebacks, and when that meant late-game finishers were comprised of ramming your opponent's head straight through a hummer's front window - it'll stick with you.
